Hide
73-4423 is a hammerstone discovered in pit feature A2 (PFA2), Area A at Cooper’s Ferry site in Idaho [1].
Description
73-4423 was made on a rounded quartzite cobble that bears orange-colored oxide staining on its cortical surface. Small incipient cones of percussion are seen on one end and abrasive wear has removed oxide staining along one of its lateral margins, which indicates that it was utilized as a hammerstone and abrader. It weighs 131.4 g. It has a maximum length of 78 mm, a maximum width of 42.5 mm, and a maximum thickness of 25.3 mm. It has been AMS radiocarbon dated to 13,300 to 13,115 cal BP [1][2].
