The prehistoric site of La Borde is located in the Quercy on the edge of the Causse de Gramat, in the commune of Livernon (Lot, France). It is a site specializing in hunting, butchery, and consumption of aurochs in the Middle Paleolithic.
The site is an ancient collapsed karst cavity of aven type, completely clogged by a sedimentary infill rich in fauna and prehistoric lithic industry.
The deposit is described as a butchery site specializing in a type of game: the fauna is largely dominated by the aurochs (Bos primigenius), with at least 40 individuals or 93.2% of the total fauna. Other species present are horses, red deer, hydrontin and wolves.
The site is interpreted as a hunting and slaughter site using a natural trap to which herds are drawn. It therefore has a number of points in common with Coudoulous I (layer c4) and Coudoulous II, with the exception of the species hunted preferentially (aurochs instead of bison).
