The Cueva de Ambrosio Natural Monument is a Natural Monument located in the Province of Almería. This archaeological site is located in the extreme north of the Almeria municipality of Vélez-Blanco, and is within the category of Natural Monuments of Andalusia. It protects the environment of the cave of Ambrosio, a shelter of 39 m wide, 18 m high and 17 m maximum depth, in which remains of the Palaeolithic have been found. It opens to a cliff of almost 100 m high oriented east-west on the stream of Moral and formed by limestones of the upper Burdigaliense-lower Langhiense. It is one of the most important Palaeolithic sites in the Iberian southeast thanks to its extensive stratigraphy, which is documented from the levels of the Upper Palaeolithic, Solutrean period, to recent prehistory, through the epipalaeolithic and neolithic levels. It highlights the interesting cultural sequence belonging to the Upper Palaeolithic and Epipalaeolithic.
The shelter is a World Heritage Site since the declaration of 1998 as part of the set Rock art of the Mediterranean arc of the Iberian Peninsula.
